Homecoming 2019

 

February 4-8, 2019, Maranatha Christian Academy (Brooklyn Park, MN) will celebrate Homecoming 2019!

Don’t miss out on the fun and excitement that Homecoming at MCA brings. With so many things happening during the week, here is a breakdown for your convenience.

Lower School Theme Days (We encourage students and staff to participate by dressing up according to the theme for the day):

  • Monday, February 4: Movie Character Day
    • Dress as your favorite movie character. Please refrain from bringing in any items that represent weapons.
  • Tuesday, February 5: Sports Day
    • Dress up as your favorite athlete, represent your favorite team or sport by wearing their uniform or equipment.
  • Wednesday, February 6: Neon Day
    • Brighten up the middle of the week by dressing in bright neon!
  • Thursday, February 7: PJ & Bad Hair Day
    • No need to get up early on this day. Simply roll out of bed and you’re ready!
  • Friday, February 8: Spirit Day
    • Represent the Mustangs by dressing in red, black, white, or gray. Wear your favorite spirit wear or make your own!

Upper School Theme Days (We encourage students and staff to participate by dressing up according to the theme for the day):

  • Monday, February 4: Movie Character Day
    • Dress as your favorite movie character.
  • Tuesday, February 5: Twin Day
    • Find a friend or two and dress alike for Twin Tuesday.
  • Wednesday, February 6: Way Back Wednesday
    • What decade will you dress up as? The options are almost endless.
  • Thursday, February 7: PJ & Bad Hair Day
    • No need to get up early on this day. Simply roll out of bed and you’re ready!
  • Friday, February 8: Spirit Day
    • Represent the Mustangs by dressing in red, black, white, or gray. Wear your favorite spirit wear or make your own!
    • You can also order a limited edition 2019 Homecoming shirt and wear it! To order your shirt, click here. (orders must be placed by January 20, 2019.

In addition to taking part in these super-fantastic theme days, there are many other things happening throughout the week:

  • Homecoming Coronation:
    • Join us as we crown the Homecoming King and Queen for 2019 during our coronation ceremony. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 4.
  • High School Dodge Ball Tournament:
    • This will take place during the day. The first round will have the Freshmen taking on the Seniors (reigning champions) and the Sophomores facing the Juniors.
    • The winners will meet in the championship with the overall champion taking on the staff during the all-school pepfest.
  • Panoramic Photo:
    • It is a sea of red, white, and black in the all-school panoramic photo. The photo will be taken just prior to the pep fest at 2 p.m.
  • Pep Fest:
    • On Friday, February 8 the all school pep fest will take place at the end of the day in the gym. This spirit-filled event will begin at 2:15 p.m.
  • Tailgating Fun:
    • In what has become a tradition here at the Academy, staff and parents will be grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, and brats in the parking lot to sell during the basketball games. Be sure to come hungry and enjoy some great food hot off the grill.
  • Basketball Games:
    • It is a back-to-back-to-back-to-back showdown with the Legacy Christian Academy Lions. The games begin with the girls’ JV at 3:45 p.m. The boys’ JV will follow at 5:15 p.m. girls’ varsity will tip off at 6:30 p.m. The boys’ varsity will finish the night of hoops with a scheduled start time of 8 p.m.
  • Alumni Gathering:
    • On Friday night, MCA will have a special area for its alumni to gather and reconnect. Being the 40th year, expect to take a trip down memory lane. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided for alumni and their families.
  • Snow Coming Dance
    • For the first time ever, MCA will host a Homecoming Dance for Grades 9-12. Affectionately called, Snow Coming, the dance will take place on Saturday, February 9 in the MCA gym. The dance will start at 8 p.m.

Other fun things happening during the week:

  • Spirit Shirts
    • Many students will make their own Spirit Shirt to wear on Friday. In the past, there has been glitter, puffy paint, iron on photos, and more! Get creative!
  • More Hoops:
    • The boys’ basketball team hosts Trinity on Tuesday, February 5. Come out and cheer them on.

It is your day to Be Brilliant.

Maranatha Christian Academy, a pre-kindegarten through Grade 12 college-prep school located in Brooklyn Park, MN, is hosting an Open House on Tuesday, February 12 at 7 p.m. This is a great opportunity to see if the Academy is a good fit for your family and if your family is a good fit for the Maranatha.

As a school of the future, Maranatha will give students the academic content and tools to imagine, synthesize, research, collaborate, invent, create, solve complex problems, and facilitate change. This is a great opportunity to get a jump on the 2019-2020 academic year and reserve a place for your student.

Breakfast with Brian – February 27

Breakfast with Brian is held in the Coffee House, located in the Living Word Christian Center lobby and begins around 8 a.m. All guests will be treated to a free cup of coffee and breakfast item. You will hear from head of school, Brian Sullivan, as he discusses Maranatha in a way that can only be done in this coffee-shop environment. In addition, guest speakers will feature timely topics.

The next Breakfast with Brian is on Wednesday, February 27 starting at around 8 a.m.

Meet Maranatha – February 27

Interested in learning more about an innovative, student-centric, and distinctly Christian college-prep school? What a better way to do this than over a cup of coffee with the Head of School?

Meet Maranatha is a casual, yet informative meeting at the Coffee House, located in the Living Word Christian Center lobby. You will be treated to a cup of coffee and sit down with Brian Sullivan, head of school, to learn more about Maranatha Christian Academy (Brooklyn Park, MN). Next, departmental Principals will lead you on a tour while school is in session to give you a live perspective and provide you more of what makes MCA a great place to send your child to school.
