Home / Student Life / Summer Camps / 2017 Summer Camp Info

Dear MCA Family,

Summer is coming upon us quickly, and we are ready. The months between school years represent
a terrific opportunity for our students to have a lot of fun, learn new things, take on new
challenges, and make new friends. This summer we are pleased to be able to offer a diverse array
of camps across athletics, engineering, math, science, the arts, and even a culinary camp!

These camps are great for students who are looking to explore new areas of possible interest,
for those looking to build athletic conditioning prior to the next sports season, or for someone
just looking for a creative outlet—there’s something for everyone. There are even some athletic
opportunities in which you, the parent, can participate right along with your student!

New this summer, MCA will offer a full-day experience for our campers going into grades 1–6 for
the 2017/18 school year. The full-day camp has two options to choose from: Option 1) Monday
through Friday from 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m., price per student is $3,360. Option 2) Monday through
Thursday from 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m., price per student is $2,688. The full-day experience will be
offered for ten weeks from Monday, June 5 to Friday, August 18 with a break during the 4th of
July Holiday week.

Below contains brief descriptions, along with key dates, costs, and details. If no contact
person is listed for a camp you are considering, contact me for details and with questions.

Once you have selected your camp(s) of interest, register your student online at mcamustangs.org.

For an extensive list of other summer programs available across the country that may be of
interest to you and your students, I encourage you to visit teenink.com. Take advantage of what
you can.

We look forward to working with you this summer to help your students have a lot of fun, learn,
and continue to prepare themselves for futures beyond MCA.

Enjoy a blessed summer,

John Szwaja

MCA’s summer sessions will NOT be conducted July 3–7, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

REGISTRATION

Register before Monday, May 29 online via the Maranatha Christian Academy Summer Activities webpage:
www.mcamustangs.org. If you prefer to register with a paper copy, pick up registration materials from
MCA’s Student Services office or make this request by email to john.szwaja@mca.lwcc.org. Hard copies of
the completed registration materials may be hand delivered or mailed with full payment. Mail registration
materials to: Maranatha Christian Academy Activities’ Director, 9201 75th Ave N., Brooklyn Park, MN 55428.
A completed Maranatha Christian Academy Summer Activities registration with emergency contact and
medical information is required for each participant. Also, an authorization for administration of medication
is needed if applicable. Payment for the full amount of tuition needs to be made in order for the registration to
be considered complete. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students should register for
activities based on the grade that they will attend in the fall of 2017.

TUITION PAYMENT

Tuition for each activity is listed in this catalog. Payment in full is required to complete registration. A $25 fee
will be assessed for payment that cannot be processed because of insufficient funds in an account or a declined
credit card.

MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

Each camp will have a minimum and maximum number of participants. These requirements vary from
activity to activity. The maximum number of students is determined based on the type of camp and the
appropriate student-to-teacher ratio. Each camp will need a minimum number of participants in order
for the camp to be conducted. A camp is subject to be canceled if it does not reach the required number of
participants. The maximum number of registrants is set so that all participants may gain the full experience
of the camp. A waitlist will be created if a camp reaches its number of maximum participants. The minimum
number of students needed to host the full-day camp options is seven. If the full day camp option does not get
a minimum of seven participants, it will not be offered.

SUPERVISION

All students in the building must be under adult supervision. If there is a span of one hour or less between two
consecutive activities that your child (entering grade 1–grade 6) is registered for, he/she may
participate in the X-Tended Day Camp for a fee of $10/hour.

ABSENCES

Tuition will not be prorated or refunded due to school closings, family vacations, or conflicting activities. If a
student is asked to withdraw from an activity because of inappropriate conduct, a refund will not be issued. A
refund for medical reasons is applicable for absences of two days or longer, and a doctor’s note is required.

REFUND POLICY

A $50 administrative fee will be retained for all registration cancelations. No refunds will be granted for
registrations canceled after the camp registration deadline. This is to ensure programmatic commitments to
families and to have proper staffing for all summer activities. This policy includes cancelations due to vacation
schedules, change of plans, and/or conflicting activities. All requests and necessary documentation for a

Students are asked to apply the daily lesson into simplified chess games (or drills), puzzles and workbooks designed to challenge students of varying experience. New students play rudimentary chess games and do worksheets that apply basic concepts. Returning students play the same simplified chess games, but are asked to apply advanced concepts and work through strategic concepts on a deeper level. The worksheets and booklets will have more advanced puzzles. Advanced students will work as above, but will have even more complicated puzzles and booklets to work through. Players are paired up with students of similar age and skill level. Our instructors direct them on strategy, application of studied concepts and analyze each ongoing game.
