MCA Accelerated provides extension activities and accelerated curricula for advanced and/or academically gifted students and supports advanced students’ social and emotional needs. Students are identified for the program through testing and teacher recommendations. Students in grades 2-5 are pulled out of the classroom 1-2 times weekly for 30-40 minutes to complete extension activities in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and/or Language Arts.
Grade 6 students participate during Advisory 1-2 times per week. Advanced students in Grades 7-8 attend an MCA Accelerated class (2-3 hours per week) in which they participate in project-based learning activities around a monthly theme, real-life investigations into STEM careers, events and competitions, and ACT/SAT test preparation.
