What to Consider When Searching for a School for Your Kindergarten Student

After pouring countless hours into preparing your child for kindergarten, the time has come: school is around the corner, and you are unsure where to send your soon-to-be student. As a loving parent, you desire for your child to receive the best education possible. As a committed Christian, the necessary selection of a kindergarten program brings increased pressure as you also want your child to be schooled in an environment that welcomes and supports his or her faith.

At Maranatha Christian Academy (MCA), we understand the importance of providing kindergarteners with learning tools that pique their natural curiosity to investigate, experiment, touch, and manipulate,. We also know God has created a wonderfully amazing world, and strive to immerse every student in an environment where they can grow both in their education and Christian beliefs.

While we would love to have your child join our incoming kindergarten class, here are a few things to consider as you search for the right kindergarten program for your student – whether that program is at MCA, or elsewhere:

1. What’s being Taught?

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math are all integral aspects of MCA’s curriculum, anchored in a solid Christian worldview. Our kindergarteners begin studies in these areas early through educational field trips, hands-on learning, technology literacy lessons, visits to our state-of-the-art STEAM center, and art history techniques – all woven through a Biblical base.

Our individualized academic plans are designed to accommodate students showing a need for academic support beyond what is provided for all students.Through Learning Support Services, our alternative testing and special education support center, we provide individual classroom accommodations, modifications, and/or interventions based on student need or the academic plan developed for them.

2. Who is Teaching?

MCA is fully-accredited through the International Christian Accrediting Association and AdvancEd. Our teachers have a minimum of a four-year college degree and are called by God to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social and physical needs of our students. Their main focus is your child, helping him or her grow into a well-rounded student, person, and Christian. Accountability and communication is key, your students’ teacher is always available for questions or concerns.

3. Do I/we want to be deeply involved?

We welcome parent involvement at MCA, and ask your feedback often! You are trusting us with your students, we want you to know they are in good hands. There are many ways to volunteer and do life with your student, from volunteering at MCA, joining a school committee, or helping with an event, we want you involved!

We understand that without parent involvement, we are not building into and reaching your student/s to the best of our ability. Our Parent Portal offer resources helping with counseling, volunteer opportunities, college prep, and much more.  In addition, our Parent University provides resources that allow us to partner with you to not just support the academic life, but also the home life.

4. How is discipline handled?

At MCA, your child is an active part of a school where students are challenged and encouraged to become the person God created them to be–spirit, soul and body. We expect our students to live and act to God’s standards. All rules and disciplinary conduct is handled respectfully and biblically.
