Dazzling Dave
Last week, lower school students had the pleasure of welcoming Dazzling Dave, a national yo-yo master, during chapel. Formerly a middle school teacher, Dave’s passion for teaching remains strong, but he has discovered a more engaging method. Through his Science of Spin program, Dave delivered an exciting freestyle performance followed by interactive instruction, teaching students about hand-eye coordination, goal setting, performance techniques, and the basics of physics.
Dave also integrates a biblical perspective into his yo-yoing. He explains that the yo-yo symbolizes the student, with God’s hand guiding it and the string representing Jesus and the personal relationship each child has with Him. As infants, children may not realize their connection to God, but it exists. As they grow, they can perform “cool tricks” with God’s help. However, when issues like jealousy or dishonesty arise, the string can break, symbolizing a disrupted connection.
We encourage you to ask your students about their yo-yoing skills they have developed throughout their time with Dazzling Dave.
