Inspiring the Next Generation

Mr. Richards
Written by Isabella (Grade 10)
I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Richards, the STEAM teacher. He teaches a variety of classes like LEGO programming and Industrial Arts. The main topic he likes teaching is computer science, which mainly focuses on programming in Python. When asked why he came to MCA, he said, "It felt like the perfect opportunity to be able to teach." He wanted to be able to teach computer science and express his faith openly with his students. He became a teacher because he wanted to be a blessing and help the next generation further their spiritual and educational growth. He originally wanted to do software development for about 10 years and get real-world experience before going into teaching "...but that's not where God called me." His dream job would be a video game developer, and he enjoys designing games with his friends.
Mr. Richards attended the University of Saint Thomas, where he was actively involved in campus ministries and connected with various groups on campus. While he grew up with faith, he also had many real-world experiences that reinforced his beliefs. He studies historical and archaeological evidence that strongly supports the existence of God. He says, "There is too much evidence to be ignorant and not believe."
In his free time, Mr. Richards enjoys playing games with his friends and spending time with his family. He likes video games such as Rocket League and Pokémon, which he grew up playing with his sister online and with cards. He also enjoys skiing at resorts and hopes to ski in Colorado, Canada, and Whistler one day. Additionally, he loves having Bible studies with his friends.
